The Good Wife: Behind the Scenes
Between the buzz of the hit CBS drama seventh season premiere of The Good Wife and market season introductions, some exciting things are happening here at IMAX. On the set of The Good Wife, Beth Kushnick is a master of her trade, transforming blank spaces into rooms that are layered with life. She builds history in the bookcase shelves, wall décor and table surfaces. In the same way she creates richly filled lives behind the scenes of her sets, she has become a pioneer in the home accents industry and stepped out from behind the velvet rope.
“A shift has occurred in my career with the development of the new home décor line for IMAX. The irony is, my role behind the scenes as a set decorator for the last three decades has evolved to a place in the spotlight as a product designer. This role reversal has been an enlightening, surreal experience.” Beth shares.
In the same way an author uses words to tell a story, Beth composes settings that enrich television story lines and even take on a life of their own. Here she shares behind the scenes photos of the BAK Home collection in action!

IMAX WORLDWIDE HOME LAUNCHES BAK HOME – A NEW COLLECTION BY SET DECORATOR AND DESIGNER BETH KUSHNICK
IMAX Corporation is proud to announce a licensing agreement with set decorator and designer Beth Kushnick. The BAK Home collection features timeless and versatile home accessories, lighting, and accent furniture. The new products will debut at the January 2015 markets.
With BAK Home, Kushnick offers IMAX customers a luxe look at an accessible price. The line consists of richly detailed pieces, all designed to work in a variety of home environments—from traditional to modern, and everywhere in between.
As a set decorator, Kushnick is known for a consistent eye and expert curation; her credits also include celebrity interiors and perhaps most notably, her ongoing role as
set decorator for the hit CBS drama The Good Wife, now in its sixth season. As Kushnick notes, “The BAK Home collection is aspirational yet completely attainable, and inspired very much by my role as a set decorator. I’m always on the lookout for classic pieces that work in a variety of spaces. At the same time, I’ve been fortunate enough to amass a great fan following through my work, and I have listened very carefully to what they are looking for. BAK Home is a culmination of all of this; the collection provides shoppers with pieces that complement an array of personalities and styles.”
Rex Yoakley, Vice President of Sales for IMAX, is certain about the success of the newly formed partnership. “We are extremely excited about our latest collaboration – Beth Kushnick has redefined the role of the set decorator throughout her career. We’re so pleased to bring her talents and experience to the IMAX family.”
ABOUT Beth Kushnick:
“As a Set Decorator, I am a storyteller. I transform blank slates into authentic spaces that can reveal an entire life in seconds, full of unspoken details. Using color, furniture, fabric, art, lighting and accessories, my job is to compose settings that both capture and enhance any story.”
For almost 30 years, Beth Kushnick has created character-driven settings for some of the most recognizable feature films and television series, including her current work as set decorator on the hit CBS drama The Good Wife.
Bringing the world of The Good Wife to life is the latest milestone in a career that’s as diverse as Kushnick’s designs, spanning dramatic films such as Reversal of Fortune to the sci-fi world of TV’s Fringe. Kushnick’s feature film credits include Hide and Seek, Rounders, Mortal Thoughts and Private Parts, and she has set decorated the East Coast units of The Insider, Jumanji, Frequency, Wanted and National Treasure. Her television work includes Kings, Trial By Jury, and Conviction. She was the set decorator for The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s lauded Costume Collection exhibition, The Model As Muse.
A native New Yorker, Kushnick is a Hall of Fame Inductee of The Set Decorators Society Of America, a voting member of both The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences as well as a Christie’s Arbiter of Style.
Additionally, Kushnick’s presence as a celebrity curator for the startup OpenSky.com garnered her over 138,000 followers. Her popular Twitter account, @goodwifesetdec, has over 5600 followers and is the first for a set decorator on any network series.
Kushnick’s approachable yet sophisticated style resonates deeply with audiences. Throughout her career, she has sought opportunities to step out from behind the velvet rope to engage her passionate and loyal television, film, and design fans. By collaborating with CBS Consumer Products, Beth was responsible for creating the first home décor license in prime time television history. Her work with Mitchel Gold + Bob Williams and Madura has broken new ground and now Beth brings her own label, BAK Home, to IMAX.
Playdates
My mantra has long been, “A Beautiful Room Will Change Your Life.” Of course, as a designer, I love continually changing beautiful rooms too. That’s why I think one of the best parts of my job is that I get to bring home the products I design to “play” with them, just as I expect any consumer who ultimately purchases the products would too.
Here is a peek inside my home and photos of some fun I had on a recent Saturday afternoon playing with my Celebrations Collection. Inspired by my desire to rejoice in both the big and little everyday moments that make up our lives, Celebrations dresses accessories in cream and gold to mark the special days and times we expect to remember years from now with love and laughter.
That’s my handsome husband Bill in one of the frames on the mantle, right below the photo of me in my wedding dress. Definitely a “big” moment of celebration worthy of a place of honor in the room. You’ll note flashes of Celebrations gold in the bookcase, on the tables and the hearth as well. One of the secrets to decorating well is creating a sense of balance.
My over-arching goal in all the collections I create for IMAX is to make it quick and easy for anyone to create a beautiful room with products that are designed to work together for a cohesive look. To achieve great balance, whenever you’re playing with a new color scheme, I recommend standing in the middle of your space and slowly turning 360 degrees. Wherever your eye lands for a moment as you turn is an ideal place to add a touch of the new color. You’ll find the result will be a well-balanced, and of course, beautiful room!

Popular Color-Driven Merchandising Concept Expands for Summer Markets
IMAX Worldwide Home is expanding their best-selling Essentials by Connie Post™ line for summer markets to include the new Celebrations collection. This “modern design made easy” merchandising concept is a collaboration between IMAX Worldwide Home and leading retail strategist Connie Post.
Fast-paced lifestyles often having us zipping through holidays and other occasions so quickly we don’t really find time to savor the special moments. “The need to recognize what’s most important in our lives and to remind us to remember to celebrate life every day inspired me to create the Celebrations collection for IMAX,” states Post. A nod to the golden, halcyon days of memory, life’s precious moments are symbolized in gold and white, a touch of light, sheen and glamour that is right for every party and occasion, works beautifully in every color scheme and complements any decor.
Since this collection is all about slowing down and taking a moment to drink in the small things, details take on special importance: Gold picture frames honor loved ones and memories with a gleam. Much-needed storage boxes for keepsakes and other precious things are decked with the flash of metal studs and hardware, as are the book boxes and even the lamp shade. A gold lidded jar set is a unique and lovely addition to the collection. Post comments, “There are thoughtful touches like serving trays with felt bottoms that make them safe to use on furnishings and family heirlooms. So go ahead. Break out the good china and crystal and lavish family and friends with Celebrations!”
