The Good Wife: Behind the Scenes

By: IMAX Worldwide Home
October 22, 2015

Between the buzz of the hit CBS drama seventh season premiere of The Good Wife and market season introductions, some exciting things are happening here at IMAX. On the set of The Good Wife, Beth Kushnick is a master of her trade, transforming blank spaces into rooms that are layered with life. She builds history in the bookcase shelves, wall décor and table surfaces. In the same way she creates richly filled lives behind the scenes of her sets, she has become a pioneer in the home accents industry and stepped out from behind the velvet rope.

“A shift has occurred in my career with the development of the new home décor line for IMAX. The irony is, my role behind the scenes as a set decorator for the last three decades has evolved to a place in the spotlight as a product designer. This role reversal has been an enlightening, surreal experience.” Beth shares.

In the same way an author uses words to tell a story, Beth composes settings that enrich television story lines and even take on a life of their own. Here she shares behind the scenes photos of the BAK Home collection in action!

Playdates

Playdates-PhotoMy mantra has long been, “A Beautiful Room Will Change Your Life.” Of course, as a designer, I love continually changing beautiful rooms too. That’s why I think one of the best parts of my job is that I get to bring home the products I design to “play” with them, just as I expect any consumer who ultimately purchases the products would too.

Playdates-Photo-2

Here is a peek inside my home and photos of some fun I had on a recent Saturday afternoon playing with my Celebrations Collection. Inspired by my desire to rejoice in both the big and little everyday moments that make up our lives, Celebrations dresses accessories in cream and gold to mark the special days and times we expect to remember years from now with love and laughter.

Playdates-Photo-4

That’s my handsome husband Bill in one of the frames on the mantle, right below the photo of me in my wedding dress. Definitely a “big” moment of celebration worthy of a place of honor in the room. You’ll note flashes of Celebrations gold in the bookcase, on the tables and the hearth as well. One of the secrets to decorating well is creating a sense of balance.

My over-arching goal in all the collections I create for IMAX is to make it quick and easy for anyone to create a beautiful room Playdates-Photo-3with products that are designed to work together for a cohesive look. To achieve great balance, whenever you’re playing with a new color scheme, I recommend standing in the middle of your space and slowly turning 360 degrees. Wherever your eye lands for a moment as you turn is an ideal place to add a touch of the new color. You’ll find the result will be a well-balanced, and of course, beautiful room!

Carolyn Kinder Talks about Good Design

By: Carolyn Kinder
September 29, 2009

There are many ways to make a living, but few are so focused as the home accessories industry on the actual quality of life. Living well, based on the character of our home and its core role, is the goal for us and for our customers.

As we offer new designs, we need to focus on our end customers and their preferences. In the current challenging economy, we need to realize shoppers are more cost-conscious, more aware of value and perhaps more interested in adding accessories rather than major furniture purchases to brighten their homes. Changing a lamp or adding a handsome vase can give shoppers a lift without guilt over spending too much money.

Harmony Tall Ceramic Bottles

Harmony Tall Ceramic Bottles

Every product starts with an idea. It is the job of a product designer to take that idea and carefully craft it into tangible, sellable merchandise.

I’ve posted some product sketches and production photos of our new Harmony Ceramics below to help give you an idea of the creative process behind the products that you carry.

Harmony Ceramics
The Harmony Ceramics are among my personal favorites. The pieces are reminiscent of classic Greek vessels, and feature large, rich patterns, giving the set a unique flare that you won’t find anywhere else.

We all work in a creative industry, so I know you understand how exciting it is when your ideas come together. I would like to share a few items with you that I am really proud of; our soon-to-be-released Nostalgic Camera Boxes and Bookends and Nostalgic Microphone.

The cameras are a lot of fun. The bookends even have a secret compartment! I wanted to give them a glammy, silver finish with a bit of an antiqued blackened patina to reflect the nostalgic perspective. I think what I like most about these is that they are functional, but will still make a great gift for anyone.
